SAN MARCOS River
This river is one of a kind, starting as a spring in the town of San Marcos. A trip down the San Marcos River is like no other. The river flows through breath-taking farmlands, with banks lined with old growth cypress trees and giant live oaks. Visitors share the river with migrating fowl, several species of hawks, kingfishers and owls. Feral hogs, coyotes, wild turkey, dove, and white-tail deer are often spotted on the river banks.
The river is home to the the Guadalupe Bass, the state fish of Texas, smallmouth and largemouth Bass. Anglers are also treated to the occasional catfish as well as several species of sunfish, eager to take fly. The San Marcos River’s cypress tree lined banks hold some real trophy Bass prospects. River mile after river mile is loaded with natural bass habitat and structure making every cast worthwhile.
FISHING SEASON | March—November: The fishing is most consistent mid March through early June and mid September through mid November. The San Marcos River has the most consistent water flows in the Hill Country, due to the constant spring fed source only a few miles upstream. It also recovers relatively fast from the effects of thunder storms and occasional flash flooding.
